UK Criminal Records Checks
If any employee needs a criminal records check at the beginning of their employment; they should also be checked at regular intervals during their time employed at the company.
Company’s should consider making it their policy to carry out criminal records checks regularly to be sure that their employee’s remain fit and proper to be working within the company.
We carry out two types of criminal records checks – Basic Disclosure and Standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
A basic disclosure check searches for any unspent convictions and a standard DBS check searches for both spent and unspent convictions.
Note: Only certain job roles can be asked to be given a Standard DBS check.
A standard check will also look for any cautions, reprimands and final warnings.
Criminal records checks are only valid up to the date the check is carried out.
Employers should consider implementing a re-occurring check for certain job roles. Some employers do this half-yearly or yearly for different job roles.
