Don't Discriminate

The Equality Act 2010

 

This Act prohibits discrimination and victimisation in the workplace and during the hiring process.

It relates to the nine ‘protected characteristics’:

 

-Age

-Disability

-Sex and sexual orientation

-Religion or belief

-Gender re-assignment

-Marriage and civil partnership

-Pregnancy and maternity

-Race

 

A company needs to show reasonable steps to avoid discrimination; this can be done by using an outsourced pre-employment screening company.

 

They can also act as a neutral third party and which gives equal treatment to the candidate being screened; thus gives privacy for the candidate – which in some cases could save the company from accusations of discrimination.
